The theme of the set is around the rivalry of the two villainous groups; Team Aqua and Team Magma, it also introduced dual type Pokemon to the TCG with the secondary type for all dual types being Darkness. The release of the set was accompanied by two theme decks; Team Magma deck and Team Aqua deck.
